TripAdvisor Adds New Feature to Warn About Unsafe Hotels

by

Recently, TripAdvisor came under fire when the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran a report alleging the company had been deleting customer comments about hotels that presented certain safety risks. Now, the company said it is implementing a new icon that will warn travelers about hotels where “serious incidents have been alleged,” according to ABC News.

The icon, which has been given to three Mexican resorts, reads, “Message from TripAdvisor: TripAdvisor has been made aware of recent media reports or events concerning this property which may not be reflected in reviews found on this listing. Accordingly, you may wish to perform additional research for information about this property when making your travel plans.

The app is going to include badges for “health, safety, and discrimination issues in all of the website’s travel categories.” The app said the badges can be applied to any properties or businesses that have been or will be reviewed.

In a statement, TripAdvisor said they will also be reviewing news reports and that more businesses may be hit with the badges.
