Cruise Ships Switch Itineraries to Avoid Joaquin
by Dave Berman of floridatoday.com
Cruse lines with itineraries from Port Canaveral and other East Coast ports whose ships have scheduled stops in the Bahamas have been scrambling to change their itineraries to avoid Hurricane Joaquin.
Among them are six Port Canaveral-based ships — Carnival Cruise Lines’ Sensation, Sunshine and Valor; Disney Cruise Line’s Dream and Fantasy; and Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas.
Generally, the ships are replacing a Bahamas port-of-call with a stop at another port or a day at sea, although the Sunshine is making a more drastic change.
There have been no reports of cruise lines canceling any cruises, according to a database compiled by the widely followed Cruise Critic website.
Cruise Critic reports that ships operated by six cruise lines — Carnival, Crystal, Disney, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean — have switched up itineraries to avoid Joaquin.
