For the sake of transparency many cruise lines have voluntarily agreed to disclose all claims of alleged incidents on board their vessels that fall under the categories outlined in the CVSSA, even if such allegations may be false or baseless.

In December 2014, legislation was passed in the United States to require all alleged crimes committed on cruise ships to be reported publicly, regardless of the investigative status of the incident.
