A crew member on Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas attempted to commit suicide Saturday morning at Port Everglades, according to a Royal Caribbean spokeswoman.
The man, in his late 30s, threatened to jump overboard at about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. BSO spent several hours negotiating with the crew member before getting close enough to prevent him from jumping. The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
The 5,400-passenger Oasis of the Seas, which was docked in Fort Lauderdale before embarking on a five-day voyage to the Caribbean, typically has more than 2,300 crew members.
